OSTEOPATHY IS A MEDICAL SYSTEM
Osteopathy focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, prevention and rehabilitation primarily of musculoskeletal disorders. Using many of the diagnostic procedures applied in conventional medical assessment, osteopaths seek to restore the optimal functioning of the body and aid its intrinsic ability to heal. Following a detailed case history and examination, treatment is based on mobilising and manipulative techniques reinforced by guidance on diet and exercise.
Treatment is not painful, a variety of gentle "hands on" techniques are used such as massage and joint manipulation etc. In some cases as the problem resolves the patients can experience some short term discomfort (for about 24 hrs) but this is no more uncomfortable than the soreness felt after
exercise or physical hard work. All ages can be treated and the treatment is modified to the individual patients needs.
The General Osteopathic Council (GOsC)
The GOsC regulates, promotes and develops the profession of osteopathy, maintaining a Statutory Register of those entitled to practice osteopathy. |
